I joined the Leander High School family in 2009, and have loved it ever since. I teach Sophomore English II and two dual-credit English Composition courses for ACC here at Leander High School as well. My background had been in teaching English Rhetoric on the college level for seven years prior to coming to LHS (2002-2009), but I have always felt drawn to being more academically and personally involved in my students' educations, and I have loved having the opportunity to do so as a Leander Lion. I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
A little bit about my background: I have a Master's Degree in Literature and a Bachelor's Degree in English and Technical Writing. I love words. And in 2001, I studied in a professorial training program at Texas State University. I have taught at various universities, including: Texas State University (TSU), the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Southern Methodist University (SMU), Texas Woman's University (TWU), Richland Community College (RCC), St. Edward's University (SEU), and Austin Community College (ACC), and, as I said, I continue to teach dual-credit ACC English classes for college credit at Leander High School. I am excited to share my experiences with you, and to share your experiences with me, so we can discover literature, reading, writing, and communication together. See you soon!
Personal
I am proud to be the mom of a brilliant little boy, Kaleb, and a new and precious baby girl, Junebug. And I'm a proud momma, not only because my kids are bright and funny and adorable and obviously the most perfect children to ever exist (besides my classroom kids of course. Of course!), but also because my son was 13lbs when he was born...You heard that, right? 13 lbs. That is my lifetime achievement. I carried a 13lb bowling ball for 9 months and didn't die of exhaustion. I think I may have peaked.
Luckily, my girl came in at a petite, tiny, teeninsie, minuscule, microscopic, 8.5lbs, so my body recognized its insanity and took it down a notch.
Thank you baby. It was appreciated.
I am also the proud wife to a hilarious husband who made me laugh so hard last Christmas I got a hernia. True story. I teach, I write, I sing in my church choir, I draw, I read hilarious things that people I like write, I play with my kids, I pretend to be a robot with my husband. Those are a few of my favorite things. I can't wait to learn about yours.
